Planning & Building in Ashburton

If you are considering constructing a steel building on your Ashburton property, we highly recommend that you check with your local District Council to see if a Building Content is required. In most cases a consent will be required, ensuring the proposed work complies with the Building Code and therefore meets the safety standards set out in the Building Act 2004.

The Ashburton District Council provides information surrounding the consent application process, requirements, costs involves and compliance. Applications are generally processed with the required 20 working days, ensuring you can begin your construction as soon as possible. Once consent has been issued, work must begin within 12 months and adhere to the approved building plans.

A Project Information Memorandum is a report that provides you with Council information relevant to your proposed building project. Whilst optional, they can help to reduce delays in obtaining approvals and highlight potential issues that could arise. The information a PIM could contain includes; planning information, heritage status, earthquake regions, details on stormwater and sewage systems and the presence of any hazardous contaminants known to Council.
